About

Real utility cost data from real people. Built for renters and movers who want the full picture, not just rent.

Our story

Utilio started from our founder's time in the Air Force. Service members would arrive at a new duty station, find an apartment that looked great online, and sign a lease thinking they understood the full cost. Many assumed their Basic Allowance for Housing would cover everything, and on paper, it often looked like it would. Then the first utility bills would arrive and the numbers looked very different.

BAH is designed to help cover housing costs, but it does not account for how much utilities can vary by location, property type, or season. Once electricity, water, and gas were added on top of rent, the true monthly cost was often far higher than expected. For families especially, that gap matters, because a budget that looks workable for one person can stretch thin quickly when you are supporting a household.

Service members and their families deserve the full picture before they commit. Not just the rent number, but the real monthly cost of living somewhere, so they can make informed decisions, plan ahead, and set their families up for success from day one.

Over time, it became clear this was not just a military problem. Utilio grew from a tool built with service members in mind into a resource for the whole community, anyone relocating, comparing cities, or just trying to understand the full cost of where they live.

Why Use Utilio?

The real cost of living isn’t just rent

Rent is only part of the picture. Utilities add hundreds each month and vary by location, property type, and season. Utilio makes that part of housing visible and comparable.

For real decisions, not just browsing

Use it when you’re moving, comparing areas, or checking if your costs are typical. Enter one month of data and see how you compare to similar setups nearby or in a new city.

Community-powered, privacy-first

Anonymous, community-driven data. We only collect what’s needed for utility costs; no names or addresses. More contributors mean a clearer picture for everyone.

Context that’s usually missing

No estimate is perfect, but shared data gives a better idea of what to expect. Utilio helps people feel more prepared and make more informed housing decisions.

How we do it

Clear rules. We only use what we need, and we never ask for anything that could identify you.

  • Electric, water, gas breakdown if you have it
  • Season of the bill

We don’t collect
